Many believe that these are coming at the cost of single-player games, and it’s there where Marvel’s had better success. There’s also been something of an exasperation with service-based games in the gaming community as more and more games try to vy for everyone’s attention. But turning games into a service that people want to come back to is tricky, and there’s no real science for turning your game into a Rainbow Six Siege or a Destiny 2. The trend of turning games into a service for years on end rather than outright sequels has only grown more and more, and it seems probable Square Enix and Marvel would decide to turn this into one of those types of games rather than jumping into a sequel. With the miniscule information that we have, primarily based on job listings, it sounds as though the game will be multiplayer or have a multiplayer mode akin to Destiny, potentially letting players become the various heroes of the Marvel Universe and play with their friends. Instinctually, the answer would be “yes, Infinity War’s scope and efforts can happen in games,” but it’s not quite as simple as that. But this collaboration is meant to be different, something greater – one of the first steps towards Marvel dominating the AAA games space with their full effort rather than a crossover with Capcom or eventually Kingdom Hearts. Capcom: Infinite, they’re just a vague presence in the world rather than anything truly defined. However, they have not really been the focus of those games in Marvel Ultimate Alliance or Marvel vs. The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have been in many a game, even before the MCU came into play.
